Kurz gesagt
Minimog is the more enjoyable Magento 2 theme to work with: fast pages, a modern look and an admin that is pleasant to use. Porto is the more stable choice: twelve years on the market, regular updates and confirmed compatibility with Magento 2.4.9. The deciding factor in 2026 is support. The Magento edition of Minimog is no longer sold or supported, so new stores should not start on it, and existing Minimog stores should plan their next theme now.
Minimog and Porto are two of the best-known premium themes for Magento 2 stores. We have built and maintained stores on both, and the question we hear most often from store owners is simple: which one should we use?
This article compares the two themes on the points that matter in daily work: ease of use, speed, stability, updates and support. It also covers an important change: the Magento edition of Minimog is no longer supported.
Important: Minimog for Magento is no longer supported
Minimog is best known as a Shopify theme by ThemeMove. Its Magento 2 edition, MinimogMG, was sold on ThemeForest by a separate author, Next_Sky. As of October 2026 the MinimogMG listing has been removed from ThemeForest, and the theme no longer appears in the author’s own catalogue, which now lists only Shopify themes.
In practice this means no new updates, no compatibility fixes for new Magento releases and no vendor support. The public documentation still lists PHP 7.3 and 7.4, while current Magento 2.4 releases run on PHP 8. Every Magento upgrade on a Minimog store therefore depends on your own developers fixing the theme.
Minimog: fast and enjoyable to use
Minimog was built with conversion in mind. It shipped with more than 50 demos, over 12 header styles and over 30 footer styles, plus store features such as product bundles, product videos and sale countdown timers.
In our experience it is the more enjoyable theme to work with. Pages feel light and fast, the design looks modern out of the box, and content teams find the admin easy to use. For a store that wants a fresh look quickly, it was a strong choice.
Porto: the stable, long-term choice
Porto by p-themes has been on ThemeForest for twelve years and is one of the most-sold Magento themes, with almost 28,000 sales and a 4.8-star rating. Version 5.2.0, released on 24 August 2026, added new demos, updated the quickstart package to Magento 2.4.9 and fixed compatibility with Magento 2.4.8 and 2.4.9.
Porto offers 49 demos, many header types, mega menus, an Ajax cart, quick view, several product page layouts, RTL support and more than 300 admin options. It takes more setup work and its frontend is heavier, but it behaves predictably across Magento upgrades. That stability is its main advantage.

Which theme should you choose?
Starting a new Magento 2 store
Do not start a new store on Minimog. Without updates it will become a risk at your first or second Magento upgrade. Between the two, Porto is the safer choice. If speed is your priority, also look at Hyvä: the Hyvä theme has been free and open source since November 2025 and delivers much faster pages than classic Magento themes.
Already running Minimog
Your store will keep working, but plan the next step now rather than during an urgent security upgrade. Make a list of the Minimog features you actually use, check how your theme behaves on PHP 8 and the latest Magento 2.4 release in a staging environment, and decide between moving to Porto, moving to Hyvä or building a custom theme.
Already running Porto
Keep the theme and its child theme up to date, apply Porto updates on staging before production, and work on speed: image optimization, caching and removing unused scripts make a clear difference on Porto stores.
How we can help
MageBooster moves Magento 2 stores from Minimog to Porto, Hyvä or a custom theme, keeps the features your customers use and checks SEO before launch. We also speed up existing Porto stores. Start with a free store audit and we will tell you which path fits your store.
